TAYLOR, Mich. -- Third year head coach Jamie Baker continued to round out her 2014 roster with the signing of Taylor Kennedy's Mary Chambers to a 2014-15 Letter of Intent Wednesday (April 2) inside the Kennedy library. The signing lifts volleyball's commit total to four early in the 2014 signing process for Coach Baker and the Mustangs.
Chambers, a 5-foot-9 middle and outside hitter, will enter Marygrove in the fall after three years of varsity playing experience for the Eagles of Kennedy High School. Under the guidance of Eagle head coach Chris Nedzlek, Chambers elevated her game to new heights during her senior campaign and was named the team's Most Improved Player at the conclusion of the season. Chambers helped her team advance to a 2013 MHSAA District Championship match this season after the Eagles toppled Romulus and Wayne Memorial in a pair of five-set thrillers.
On the club side, Chambers helped round out her skills by playing the sport she loves year-round. Most recently, Chambers played for the widely-known Michigan Elite volleyball club for the past two years.
The multi-sport student-athlete also participated in basketball and soccer during her days as an Eagle.
Coach Baker on Chambers: We are very excited to have Mary join the Mustang Volleyball family. We have a young offensive class coming in, and Mary will be competing for playing time on the outside. Mary has a lot of potential to be an all-round factor for the team. I look forward to working with Mary, and I'm excited to see her excel to the next level.
