GLENS FALLS, New York-- The Marygrove College baseball team started the first round of the USCAA National Baseball Tournament in fashion beating the PSUAC Conference Champion Penna State Mont Alto 9-7. Daniel Bailey earned the victory pitching the full seven inning contest.

In the first inning, Raleigh Wilson (SR/Harrison Township, MI) led the inning off with a base hit, followed by Antonio Carta (FR/Allen Park, MI) getting hit by a pitch. Juan Ventura (SR/Lawerence, MA) cleared the bases with a stand-up double into left center field. Ventura scored from second after Ernesto Carrillo (JR/Dearborn, MI) earned a base hit up the middle. Daniel Bailey (JR/Clinton Township, MI) and the Mustangs defense held Penn State Mont Alto to a scoreless first inning.
In the top of the third, Antonio Carta started the inning off with a walk. Travis Tarrence (JR/West Branch, MI) hit a stand-up double that scored Carta from first base. Tarrence would steal third base and score off of a wild pitch. The Mustangs scored two more runs to extend the lead 5-0. The Mustangs would continue their strong defensive play behind starting pitcher Daniel Bailey.
In the top of the fourth, Jacob Rodgers (JR/Sterling Heights, MI) started the inning with a base hit up the middle. He reached second base on a fielder's choice. Rodgers advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Chase Turner (SO/Birmingham, MI) hit a stand-up double to score Rodgers from third base and increase the lead 6-0. Turner showed his speed after he advanced to third base on a delayed steal but was left on base.
In the top of the fifth, Chase Younkin (SR/Macomb, MI) hit a double off of the fence but was left on base. Penn State Mont-Alto cut into the lead after they scored one run on a Mustangs defensive error.
In the top of the seventh, Troy Justice (JR/Detroit, MI) and William Da Costa (FR/Toronto, Ontario) started the inning off earning walks. Wilson re-entered the game to run for Justice. Wilson and Da Costa both advanced after a double-steal. Juan Ventura blasted a single to score Wilson and Da Costa. Ventura scored after Travis Tarrence did his job and earned a RBI on a groundout. The Mustangs gave up six runs in the bottom of the seventh but would win the contest 9-7.
