GARDEN CITY, Mich.-On Friday, the Cougars of Garden City sent another promising student-athlete to Marygrove College. Rebecca Collins, a women's soccer standout for the Cougars, signed a 2010-11 Letter of Intent hours before her high school graduation.
Collins, a
versatile 5'2" forward/midfielder, will head to Marygrove this fall after
competing in one of the most competitive conferences in the metro area (Western
Wayne Athletic Conference). Adding to the long line of Cougars-turned-Mustangs,
Collins is set to join former high school teammate Karlee Derrick at Marygrove
in the fall when the Mustangs look to repeat as United States Collegiate
Athletic Association (USCAA) National Champions.
Culminating
a tremendous high school career, the three-year varsity player was at the top
of her game earning two postseason awards after a fine senior season. The
awards landed Collins appearances on the 2010 All-District and All-Western
Wayne Conference Honorable Mention teams. Showcasing her talents at a high
level, Collins has six years of premiere soccer experience as a member of the
Livonia City Soccer Club.
Coach Williams on Collins: Rebecca is a huge addition to our program. She plays with similar intensity to her former teammate, Karlee Derrick. Her skill and determination will allow her to compete for a starting spot next season. I am looking forward to another exciting season this fall.
