UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Mustangs hit the track for the second time in 2012 when they visited Saginaw Valley State University for the Doug Hansen Open. A stellar showing was highlighted by the performances of George Moore (Detroit, Mich./Pershing) and Darryl Rouse (Detroit, Mich./CMA) in their respective events.
Moore, a
freshman dual-sport athlete in cross country and track, had another strong
showing in the 400m with a time of 55.54. The speedy freshman ran past two NCAA
D1 athletes on his way to a 3rd place finish in the event.
In the long
jump, [Darryl] Rouse was back to form after suffering through a lengthy injury
that hobbled the jumps specialist. A 6.04m jump earned Rouse a 4th place
finish and was only .40m off the 1st place mark.
Anthony Butler (Lincoln Park,
Mich/Roosevelt) clocked in with a time of
10:30 in the 3000m for ninth place, while Robert
Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King)
and Akil Prowell (Detroit, Mich./Crockett)
took home 11th and 14th respectively in the 1mile event.
The first
relay entered into in 2012 was a success as Crockett, Moore, Prowell and Rouse raced their way to a
seventh place finish in the 4x400.
The Mustangs will travel to Grand Valley State University on Friday (01/20) for the 2012 Mike Lints Open.
