DETROIT, Mich. -- The women's basketball program picked up a local standout with the signing of Cass Technical High School's Christen Jones. The signing marks the beginning of what expects to be a talented class for the Mustangs next year.
Jones, a 6-1
power forward/center, intends to hit the hardwood at Marygrove next year after
a stellar career as a two-sport athlete at Cass Tech. The lengthy post player
gives the women's basketball team something they have been missing for the past
couple seasons - size. At 6-1, Jones'
length alone will help ease her transition to the collegiate level as she will
be relied upon to change the opposition's shots. Also, Jones will give the
Mustangs an additional scoring threat on the block opposite of Keara Marks.
A committed
student-athlete, Jones has been on Cass Tech's Honor Roll her entire high
school career. The talented dual-sport student-athlete also played two years of
volleyball for the Technicians as she helped her team to back-to-back City
Championships. At the club level, Jones'
talents landed her roster spots on the Michigan Crossover, Michigan Monarchs,
and Michigan Elite (Volleyball). Jones lists her favorite sports moment as
beating Mumford and Renaissance this year.
Coach Hitchcock on Jones: Christen is an excellent addition to our program. Her size and love for the game will help her be a great at this level. Christen's signing gives us much-needed depth in the frontcourt and I expect her to challenge for a starting position immediately. I look forward to watching Christen compete as a Mustang over the next four years.
