ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Mustangs continued to put their stamp on intercollegiate indoor track & field in Michigan with another strong performance at the 2012 Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State University.
The event
showcased some of the region's best talent from the Great Lakes region packed
inside the Kelly Family Sports
Center at GVSU. The
Mustangs raced their way to a successful day behind inspired efforts by
everyone donning the Marygrove green & white singlet. Leading the way for
the Mustangs was the 4x400 team of Anthony
Butler (Lincoln Park, Mich./Roosevelt), Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King), George Moore (Detroit, Mich./Pershing), and Darryl Rouse (Detroit, Mich./CMA) with a team PR time of 3:37. The
PR set the Mustangs up for a 13th place finish.
In the long
jump, Rouse leaped out to the tune of a 6.02 jump for 13th place as
well. Moore hit
the track earlier in the day in the 600m with a time of 1:28, while Crockett
set another PR with a time of 2:09 in the 800m.
Akil Prowell (Detroit,
Mich./Crockett) and Butler finished the 3000m and mile race with
times of 10:28 and 4:57 respectively.
"Overall, it
was a great day for our team. This was the first complete men's indoor team we
have had in few events we have ran as a young program. I am proud of everyone's
effort today and I look forward to a great finish to our indoor season," said
head coach LaCema Womack.
The Mustangs will hit the indoor oval once again on Saturday, January 28 when the visit Findlay University for the 2012 Findlay Classic.
