DETROIT, Mich. -- The Mustangs lifted their record to 7-10 on the season with a non-conference win over Great Lakes Christian College (Mich.). The win was their second of the season over the Crusaders.
The win, coming in straight set fashion (25-11, 25-3, 25-10), was also the Mustangs first home victory of the 2012 season.
In a game that featured a mere seven attack errors, the Mustangs executed their game plan en route to having seven players with three or more kills in the three-set win.
Leading the way for the Mustangs was sophomore middle Kiara Cobbs (Detroit, Mich./King) with 12 kills. Cobbs also added the Mustangs lone block of the match after stuffing a Crusader attempt in a solo effort.
Sophomore Brittany Stephens (Southfield, Mich./Oakland University) had her coming out party as a Mustang with an impressive seven kills on 10 attempts. The sophomore also added six digs after seeing action in all three sets.
Senior outside hitter Jaci Michetti (Woodhaven, Mich./Wayne State) also had seven kills for the Mustangs. Michetti added three service aces to complete a well-rounded effort.
Alyssa Kowalski (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) and Alixandria Pappas (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) added four kills each for the Mustangs. Katharina Hall (Livonia, Mich./Henry Ford CC) and Elizabeth Lerczak (Hale, Mich./Hale) followed closely behind with three kills. Lerczak would also have four service aces.
Senior libero Shana Tooley (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) led all Mustangs with 19 digs. Tooley added four aces to share the team-high with Lerczak.
Megan Gohl (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) directed the Mustang attack once again en route to 39 assists. Playing banged up, the senior setter also added two digs and a kill to help lead the Mustangs to victory.
The Mustangs will return to conference action Saturday at 1:00pm when they visit Grand Rapids, Mich., to take on Cornerstone University. Cornerstone is currently ranked No. 22 in the country in the NAIA.
