SYLVANIA, Ohio -- Wednesday (Oct. 10) welcomed a matchup between two teams that were seeking conference win No. 1 when they Mustangs (9-12; 0-5 WHAC) bussed into Ohio to take on the Lourdes University Gray Wolves (8-16; 1-5 WHAC).
Lourdes University 3, Marygrove College 0 (23-25, 18-25, 18-25)
A 22-21 lead late into the first set forced the Gray Wolves to call a timeout after the Mustangs rallied back from an 11-18 hole. After the timeout, the late first set lead slipped away from the Mustangs giving the host Gray Wolves all the momentum they would need to get the win on their home court.
The Mustangs, as they have done all season long, continued to battle as they forced the Gray Wolves into 10 second set errors. Down one set, the Mustangs attempted to climb their way back into the match and capalize on the errors. A late Gray Wolves onslaught would force the Mustangs into seven errors of their own (six kills) en route to taking a two-set lead.
Set three was nearly a mirror image of the second as the Gray Wolves closed out the set with a 25-18 set three score.
The Mustangs were led by Kiara Cobbs (Detroit, Mich./King) and Alixandria Pappas (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) with eight and seven kills respectively. Megan Gohl (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) had 19 assists, while Katharina Hall (Livonia, Mich./Henry Ford CC) and Elizabeth Lerczak (Hale, Mich./Hale) led the team in digs with 13 each.
The Mustangs will host a Friday (Oct. 12) night match against Aquinas College at 7:00pm inside UD-Jesuit High School. The Saints come into Friday's match 10-11 overall and 3-3 in the WHAC.
