Women's Volleyball - Fri, Oct. 12, 2012

DETROIT, Mich. -- The lone Friday (Oct. 12) night home match of the year produced a crowd that was ready to witness WHAC volleyball action as the Saints of Aquinas College visited Marygrove College. The pair of schools dueled on a night where Aquinas would pick up their third conference win after sweeping the Mustangs.

Aquinas 3, Marygrove 0 (17-25, 19-25, 7-25)

The Mustangs (9-13; 0-6 WHAC) got off to a slow start against a Saints team that came into Wednesday's match winners of their last six contests to bring their record to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in conference. During their six game winning streak, the Saints have only dropped one set en route to sweeping their last three opponents.

Set one's slow start ended in a 25-17 decision in favor of the Saints. The visiting team would capitalize on the first set victory and close out the contest in three by taking set two and three by finals of 25-19 and 25-7 respectively. The win put the Saints even in conference (3-3) and lifted their overall record to 10-11.

The Mustangs were led by Katharina Hall (Livonia, Mich./Henry Ford CC) with 12 kills. Megan Gohl (Belleville, Mich/Belleville) added 24 assists, while Jaci Michetti (Woodhaven, Mich./Wayne State) added 16 digs.

After the setback, the Mustangs are now 3-3 overall in the month of October. Their next match is a road conference tilt at (RV) University of Northwestern Ohio. This week, the Racers just missed making an appearance in the NAIA Top-25 national poll after posting a 25-1 record to date.
