DETROIT, Mich. -- The first rubber match in the brief history of Madonna and Marygrove women's soccer ended in a 2-1 nail biter in favor of the visiting Crusaders. The win boosts the Crusaders all-time record to 2-1 over the Mustangs.
The Mustangs (6-7-1; 1-3-1 WHAC) looked to be in control of their fourth WHAC contest when sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Vigna (China Twp., Mich./Marine City) notched her sixth goal of the 2012 campaign near the five minute mark.
A 1-nil early lead helped the Mustangs keep the Crusaders (6-5; 3-1 WHAC) off the board until Ashley Parent struck in the 17th minute to tie that game, 1-1.
The Crusaders would tally another goal before the first half would expire when Katlyn Krysiak scored to make it a 2-1 game just before halftime.
In the second half, the Mustangs would have a goal called off after an unlucky offsides call spoiled the great effort. The goal would have been the equalizer the Mustangs needed as they would fall in a close one to the Crusaders, 2-1.
The Mustangs will be back in action Wednesday (Oct. 17) at Aquinas College for a 4:00pm kick.
