DETROIT, Mich. -- The Mustangs, led by head coach Dave Sichterman, will open the 2012-13 season at home against familiar foe, the Lakers of Roosevelt University (Ill.), at 8:00pm Thursday (Nov. 1). Last season, the Mustangs settled for a split with the Lakers after winning on a neutral court and losing on the road.
The brief history between the two teams (1-1 all-time) sets up an interesting rubber match to tip-off the 2012-13 campaign. A Mustang victory came at last season's Madonna University Crusader Classic when the team used clutch free throws with five seconds remaining to top the Lakers, 79-78.
Later in the season, the Mustangs hit the road for Chicago – the home of the Lakers. The Windy City was unkind to the Mustangs as they would leave on the wrong side of a 76-72 decision.
With the brief series tied at 1-1, the Mustangs will look to use home court to their advantage to snag a victory in the season-opening rubber match.
Heading into the contest, the Mustangs will look to their youth to balance out a deep roster that could see as many as 10-12 Mustangs contributing heavily on any given night.
