From the opening tip, the Mustangs youth showed as the Lakers were able to force key turnovers to take an early 17-4 lead that they would not relinquish. Unable to get into an offensive rhythm, the Mustangs sputtered through the first half after making only eight field goals to go down, 38-23, at the break.
In the second half, offense would once again be at a premium as the Mustangs unlucky night continued. In the end, the slow start doomed the youthful Mustangs as they dropped the home opener of the 2012-13 season.
Diante Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) led all Mustangs with 10 points and five assists. The freshman guard was able to adjust to the college speed as the game developed after getting the starting nod in game one of the season.
Fellow freshman Manny Washington (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) pulled down eight boards to go along with six points for the Mustangs.
Next Game: The Mustangs will hit the hardwood Nov. 7 at 7:00pm when they visit NCAA D2 Saginaw Valley State University.
