DETROIT, Mich. -- The inaugural season of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play will start with a road test against preseason conference favorite, Davenport University. The No. 11 Panthers are set to host the Mustangs in Grand Rapids at 3 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 17).
The Mustangs (0-4) have started at least two freshmen in each of their contests to begin the season. The youth, combined with plenty of other young players on the deep roster, has led to a bit of growing pains as the team eyes a fresh start in conference play.
The clean slate in conference will face a serious test against a team that went to the NAIA Semi-final round last season.
Davenport (4-1) hosts the Mustangs nearly one year after the Panthers pulled away in the second half to win 96-70 last season (Nov. 22, 2011).
Despite the setback, the Mustangs still own a 7-2 all-time series lead over the Panthers.
Senior guard Darryl Foster (Southfield, Mich./Missouri Valley College) leads the Mustangs with 14.3 PPG.
