GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head coach Dave Sichterman and the Mustangs (0-5, 0-1 WHAC) started life in their new conference by dropping an 83-38 decision to the host Panthers of Davenport University (5-1, 1-0 WHAC). The Panthers entered conference action as the 11th-ranked team in the NAIA.
A sluggish start offensively by the Mustangs helped propel the Panthers to a 40-12 halftime lead.
The 28-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Mustangs would eventually fall to last season's NAIA semifinalist by 45 points.
Senior forward Justin Armstrong (Detroit, Mich./Academy of Oak Park) paced the Mustangs with nine points.
The Mustangs will seek their first win of the 2012-13 campaign when they visit Madonna for their next WHAC contest. The Crusaders host the Mustangs at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 20).
