After holding a two point halftime lead at 40-38, the Mustangs raced out to take the game's largest lead of 13 points, 56-43, before running in to a bit of tough luck.
Down the stretch, the Cougars used home court to their advantage by getting to the free throw line 31 times in comparison to the Mustangs 12. The Cougars sank 20 more free throws than the Mustangs and attempted 21 from the line in the second half alone.
In the end, the charity stripe would once again be the difference as the Mustangs went on to drop their ninth of the season.
Sophomore swingman Jordan Al (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) poured in a game-high 23 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. The totals were both career highs at the varsity level for the second-year man out of Dearborn High School.
Darryl Foster (Southfield, Mich./Missouri Valley College) dropped in 16 on 7-of-16 shooting in the loss.
The Mustangs return to conference play Wednesday (Dec. 5) at home against UM-Dearborn at 7:30 p.m. A women's game precedes the contests at 5:30 p.m. from Ford Field House in Highland Park.
