FINDLAY, Ohio -- The 2012-13 indoor season kicked off Saturday (Dec. 8) at Findlay's Oiler Opener. The event was highlighted by a well-rounded day for the Mustangs that was witness to a George Jackson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) fifth place finish in the 600m run.
Jackson's fifth place finish would see the sophomore cross the line at 1:25.49. The time was a half second away from a top three finish for the former Mumford standout.
Fellow Mumford running mate Marcell Houston (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) came in 11th in the 600m.
Houston and Jackson entered the 200m with Houston taking 25th with a time of 25.24. Jackson would be disqualified for a false start.
Jalen Wilson (Detroit, Mich./CMA) also entered the 200m dash and came in right behind Houston in 26th place with a time of 25.63. Wilson would also finish 23rd in the long jump.
Senior Anthony Butler (Lincoln Park, Mich./Roosevelt) and sophomore Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King) held the same pace all afternoon as the pair were separated by a mere 10 seconds over the course of the 800m and 1-mile runs.
Butler would finish 12th in the 800 after posting a time of 2:11. Crockett was three seconds behind Butler to take home 13th place after clocking in at 2:14. In the 1-mile run, both Mustangs finished with sub-five minute times with Butler crossing at 4:52 and Crockett at 4:59. They would finish the event by placing eighth and ninth respectively.
Newcome Lovell Walker (Detroit, Mich./Allen Academy) finished 13th in the 300m dash with a time of 41.62. Fellow newcomer Gaoussou Cisse (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) finished in 13th in the 1-mile and 14th in the 800 to complete his first outing.
