MELVINDALE, Mich. – Marygrove College Volleyball, led by head coach Jamie Baker, picked up their first commitment of the 2013 class with the signing of local talent Alyssa Adkins (Melvindale High School).
The signing was held inside the Melvindale Board of Education Building and was conducted in front of Adkins' family and the Melvindale High School Volleyball Team.
Adkins, a 5'3 libero/defensive specialist, played all four years at Melvindale and lettered three years for the Cardinals. This season, Adkins' strong play elevated her to All-Downriver/All-League selections at the conclusion of her senior campaign.
As part of a busy volleyball schedule, Adkins' abilities also landed her a spot on the well-known Michigan Elite Volleyball Club for three years.
The Adkins signing marked a first for Coach Baker from a player she recruited from start-to-finish after taking the helm of Marygrove Volleyball in May 2012.
Comments from Coach Josh Short, Melvindale Head Coach: "Alyssa is a student-athlete that I will always be proud to say played for me!"
Comments from Coach Baker: "We are very excited to announce Alyssa as the latest addition to the Mustang Volleyball Family. Alyssa will be competing to fill the shoes of four outgoing seniors that were strong defensively for us last season. Her work ethic and competitiveness, combined with her volleyball background, will help ease her transition into a very competitive conference (WHAC). I look forward to coaching Alyssa next year."
