DETROIT, Mich. -- The Lourdes University Gray Wolves (11-5, 6-3 WHAC) shot out of the gates strong in Saturday's (Jan. 5) matinee conference matchup to take a 35-20 halftime lead. The halftime lead was nearly negated by a strong surge early in the second half as the Mustangs cut it to a four-point game before the Gray Wolves pulled away to win, 66-42.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-8 in the WHAC through their first nine games in the conference and 1-16 overall. The Mustangs' lone win came against fellow WHAC newcomer Lawrence Tech back on Nov. 28 by a 62-57 final.
Lourdes was led by Corey Harvey with 15 points. Alex Davis was close behind with 13 of his own.
No Mustang reached double figures in the conference setback. Manny Washington (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) and Diante Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) each had eight for the Mustangs. Kevin Dunaj (Warren, Mich./Cousino) and Zamarre Neely (Detroit, Mich./Summit Academy) chipped in six each.
Next Up: The Mustangs hit the road as the continue conference play Thursday (Jan. 10) at Siena Heights University.
