GVSU Big Meet Recap

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Mercedesz Brown (Redford, Mich./Thurston) and Devin Willis (Flint, Mich./Carman Ainsworth) once again hit the indoor oval for the Mustangs at a familiar venue – Kelly Family Sports Center at Grand Valley State University.

On Saturday (Feb. 9), the pair of freshmen competed against the most competitive field they have seen this year at the annual Big Meet.

Brown entered the 60m dash and finished with a time of 9.27 to beat out a couple competitors in a loaded field. The freshman was .13 off last week’s mark of her 9.14 performance at Indiana Wesleyan.

Willis toed the line in the 400m and continued her strong season after finishing at 1:08.94. Last week, Willis ran a 1:09 at the Wildcat Open hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.

The GVSU Big Meet marked the final tune-up for Brown and Willis before Saturday’s (Feb. 16) 2013 WHAC Championships in Angola, Ind.
