DETROIT, Mich. -- The Mustangs (1-26, 0-21 WHAC) hosted their second-to-last home game of the 2012-13 campaign against one of the conference's and nation's top teams in the No. 21-ranked Saints of Siena Heights University (21-8, 16-5 WHAC).
Dressing only seven active players, the Mustangs gave the visiting Saints fits early on and held a brief lead before the nation's No. 21 team knotted the game up 16-16 with 11:22 to play in the first half.
From there, the Saints outside shooting would lead a 10-0 over the next three minutes to put the Mustangs down, 26-16. The spurt was all the Saints needed to get going as they would cruise into the half up, 45-28.
The Mustangs, anchored by strong play from point guard Ciara Moore (Detroit, Mich./Northwestern), kept clawing away at the Saints lead over the course of the game's final 20 minutes. In the end, the Saints depth and execution proved to be too much for the Mustangs as they would go on to win, 82-53.
Moore would pour in a career-high and game-high 25 points in the conference defeat. Moore has scored in double figures for nine games straight as she continues to close the season strong for the Mustangs. Of the nine games, four have been 20-plus point performances for the speedy guard.
Siena Heights was led by Morgan Warfield with 17 points.
The Mustangs will host 2013 Senior Day during their final contest of the season Saturday (Feb. 16) inside Ford Field House at 1:00 p.m.
