DETROIT, Mich. -- Three seniors will hit the floor for the final time Saturday (Feb. 16) when the Mustangs host the Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio. The seniors – led by all-time leading scorer Keara Marks (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) – seek an upset to finish the season on a high note.
Marks, the program's top scorer, will once again be inactive for the Mustangs as she recovers from an injury that sidelined her earlier this season. Nevertheless, the senior will be recognized before tipoff of the men's game for her contributions to women's basketball over the past four years.
Women's Basketball vs. UNOH – 1:00 p.m.
Senior Day Ceremony (men's and women's basketball) – Approx. five minutes before the men's game begins
Men's Basketball vs. UNOH – 3:00 p.m.
Megan Gohl (Belleville, Mich./Belleville), a four-year starter on the women's volleyball team, will also play her final contest for the Mustangs. The one-year basketball stint for Gohl was a welcome addition for the Mustangs as she brought the same commitment and determination to the hardwood as she did on the volleyball court for so many years. Gohl is the volleyball program's all-time leader in assists.
Jessica Niemi (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek) is also a converted basketball player after a brilliant four-year soccer career. A 2009 USCAA National Champion in women's soccer, Niemi made a smooth transition to basketball by appearing in every game for the Mustangs. During her soccer days, Niemi was a four-time USCAA All-American.
