DETROIT, Mich. -- Two seniors ended their collegiate career with a Senior Day setback to the Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio by a final score of 82-61. The seniors, Justin Armstrong (Detroit, Mich./Academy of Oak Park) and Cameron Coburn (Bay City, Mich./All Saints), were recognized before tipoff for their four years in the program.
In the first half, the Mustangs came out firing on all cylinders against Racers behind a spirited effort for the seniors. The effort lifted the Mustangs to a 22-21 lead with half of the first stanza gone by. From there, the Racers would put together a strong 10 minutes to close the half and take the lead at the break, 36-26.
The second half would see the Racers continue a torrid shooting pace behind the arc with the team shooting a red-hot 10-for-21 for the game. The multiple connections from distance was enough to keep the Mustangs at bay as the Racers would take the 21-point win on the WHAC's final day of regular season action.
Armstrong would tally nine points in his final outing as a Mustang, while Coburn chipped in with six of his own.
The Mustangs were led by freshman Diante Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) with 18 points. Fellow freshman Corey Dunaj (Warren, Mich./Cousino) followed closely behind with 12 points. Both freshmen are considered valuable building blocks for the Mustangs heading into 2013-14.
The Racers were led by Blake Bush with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
