DETROIT, Mich. -- Recently, men's basketball head coach Dave Sichterman picked up a commitment from afar when Jimmy Stewart signed on to play for the Mustangs next season. The Punta Gorda, Fla., native will be heading north to Detroit to continue his playing career with a team eager to make a splash heading into their second season of play in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
Stewart, a 6'3" guard/forward, is the first of many targeted student-athletes to commit to the Mustangs' 2013-14 squad. The wing player from the Sunshine State recently completed a four-year career that brought a pair of district championships to the Fighting Tarpons of Charlotte High School.
The incoming Mustang was also a member of the Region 18 Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) All-Academic Team.
Coach Sichterman on Stewart: By adding Jimmy, we get a smart player that can also stretch the floor for us next season and beyond. His academic record and work ethic will bode well in a program like ours that lives by the athletic department's three C's of Commitment, Character, and Champions. I look forward to coaching Jimmy and the rest of the team next season.
