DETROIT, Mich. -- On Monday (04/22), Grosse Ile High School's Natalie Toth Watkins officially announced she will continue her education and volleyball career at Marygrove College. The signing, which took place on Marygrove's northwest Detroit campus, makes Toth Watkins the fourth 2013 commit in what is shaping up to be a strong class for head coach Jamie Baker and the Mustangs.
Toth Watkins, a 5'4" libero/defensive specialist, signs after a senior season that brought plenty of success for the Red Devils of Grosse Ile High School. Highlighting her senior year, Toth Watkins made waves locally after leading her Red Devils squad to a 2012 News-Herald Tournament Championship over heavily-favored Woodhaven High School. The senior was named MIPREPZONE.com Player of the Week after helping her team capture the News-Herald crown.
A 2012 team captain, Toth Watkins put together a solid campaign on-and-off the court that led to a nod on the All-News-Herald Team and an All-Academic Honorable Mention selection. Showcasing her consistent play over the years, the soon-to-be Mustang earned the distinction of becoming the all-time digs leader at Grosse Ile High School at the end of her senior season.
Noteworthy: Toth Watkins will join fellow All-News-Herald selection Alyssa Adkins (Melvindale), as well as fellow signees Ashley Murphy (Livonia Clarenceville) and Molly Ralko (Dearborn Crestwood), on the court next season for the Mustangs.
Coach Baker on Toth Watkins: Natalie is a well-rounded student athlete that will bring more defensive depth to our roster next season. Her go-get-it attitude and genuine character are a couple of attributes we continually seek to add to our growing young program. I look forward to coaching Natalie soon and welcome her and the rest of the 2013 commits to the Mustang Volleyball Family.
