DETROIT, Mich. -- Led by PGA professional and head coach, Frank McAuliffe, the men's golf program picked up their second 2013 commitment with the signing of former Comstock Park High School star, Jake Vogel. The signing brings another strong golf background to the Mustangs 2013 roster after being recruited by McAuliffe and first year assistant coach Ronnie Pollack, Jr.
As a Panther at Comstock Park, Vogel was a mainstay as a leader on the team after being named captain for his sophomore and senior campaigns. The captain stints also brought Vogel Team MVP honors after the Panther finished a pair of successful seasons. As a senior in 2011, Vogel's high school career was culminated by a Top-5 finish in a loaded district that was home to 12-15 other programs throughout the West Michigan area.
Since 2010, the future Mustang played on the Michigan Junior PGA Tour, while entering a host of other amateur events. Vogel, a golf enthusiast, also played six years on the West Michigan Junior Golf Tour.
Coach McAuliffe on Vogel: Jake brings another great golf background to our program. He, along with Tyler, will be considered cornerstones of what is shaping up to be a very talented 2013 class for our men's team. Jake has a great understanding for the game and has played on many challenging courses growing up on Michigan's west side. I look forward to coaching him and the rest of the team soon.
