MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Freshman cross country and track & field student-athlete Devin Willis (Flint, Mich./Carmen Ainsworth) participated in Saturday's (04/27) Lyle Bennett Open as a tune-up for the upcoming Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championships in Grand Rapids on May 3.
The Lyle Bennett Open was hosted by Central Michigan University and home to numerous teams from the region spanning from NCAA to NAIA competition.
Running in the familiar 200m and 400m events, Willis would clip her EMU Twilight times one race while keeping pace in another to help prepare for the upcoming conference championships. In the 200m, the freshman would work her way to a time of 29.18 for 19th place in the field. The time is a mere .11 off her best 200m outdoor time at the collegiate level.
Earlier in the day, Willis clocked in at 1:15.17 in the 400m – a time that is behind her record pace of 1:10 heading into Saturday's CMU Lyle Bennett Open.
On May 3, Willis and the Mustangs will march into Grand Rapids for a shot at individual crowns in their inaugural WHAC Outdoor Championship. The event will take place at Houseman Field hosted by Aquinas College. More information regarding the 2013 WHAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships can be found here.
