DETROIT, Mich. -- What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend? Whatever they may be, our women's volleyball team may have the best plan of all – a trip to the Sunshine State to take on the field at the Northwood (Fla.) Labor Day Volleyfest. The Mustangs (1-3) left Metro Airport Thursday (Aug. 29) en route for West Palm Beach to prepare for a weekend full of volleyball, and a bit of fun in the sun.
Since her arrival, head coach Jamie Baker has envisioned an annual team trip so the team could continue to get acclimated with the style and competitiveness of volleyball across the country. This season, Baker and the Mustangs took flight to Florida to take on tough NAIA and USCAA schools. On Friday, the Mustangs will open at 1:00 p.m. against Florida College – the USCAA's national champion for three straight years before ending 2012 in second place. The host Northwood Seahawks await the Mustangs in Friday's nightcap before the team returns to the court Saturday (Aug. 31) to play Calumet College of St. Joseph and Edward Waters.
The team will spend Sunday in the Florida sun before squaring off against Talladega College (Ala.) on Labor Day at 5:00 p.m.
