DETROIT, Mich. -- Antonio Hitchcock, entering year ten at the helm of the Marygrove women's basketball program, announced Monday (Sept. 30) the release of his team's 2013-14 schedule. The upcoming schedule will mark the program's second year in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
Reinforcements Provide Assistance With Tough Slate
A year after experiencing the worst season in the Hitchcock era, the Mustangs have brought in a deep and talented recruiting class that has its sights set on nabbing the program's first WHAC win, and more. The conference slate tips off with a home game against perennial power Davenport University Nov. 16. Another tough test looms four days later when the Mustangs welcome the neighboring Madonna University Crusaders to town.
Last season, the Mustangs came close to getting their first WHAC win on a few occasions. The closest attempt came at Lawrence Tech on Jan. 23, 2013, with the Mustangs losing 67-65. The Mustangs will make their return trip to Southfield to take on the Blue Devils Nov. 26. A week later, Hitchcock and the Mustangs travel to take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn (Dec. 4).
Big Time Opponents
The Mustangs will play two NCAA Division I opponents, Eastern Michigan University and University of Detroit. The game against the Detroit Titans is an exhibition, while the Nov. 30 tip at Eastern Michigan University is one of 30 regular season contests for the Mustangs.
An early October exhibition against the University of Windsor and a Nov. 27 contest against NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State University are also on the early season non-conference schedule for Hitchcock's Mustangs.
Toronto, Here We Come!
The team will take a trip with a bit of international flavor when they visit Toronto Dec. 19 to take on George Brown College. Sight-seeing, recruiting, and a win will be on the team's mind when they visit our neighbor to the north.
Coming To You Live!
All home games and select road games will feature live audio play-by-play and live stats on the Mustang Sports Network. Jeremy Otto, the Voice of the Mustangs, will be on the call as Hitchcock and the Mustangs take on the field this season. Links to live coverage can be found on the Gameday Live section.
A full season preview will be released in the week leading up to the team's first contest.
