DETROIT, Mich. -- Four different Mustangs scored goals, including a pair each from Jessica McClendon (Canton, Mich./Madonna University), Jessica Trimmer (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington), and Cheyenne York (Taylor, Mich./Truman), and another by Kamry Miller (New Boston, Mich./UM-Dearborn) to pace the women's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Grace Bible College (6-4-0).
The 7-0 win marked the largest margin of victory for a Tony Williams team since Sept. 11, 2012, when the Mustangs topped St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.) by the same score.
A five-goal effort in the first half propelled the Mustangs (3-6-0, 0-1-0 WHAC) to their third win of the 2013 campaign. Jessica Trimmer started the scoring spree a mere two minutes into the contest, notching the eventual game-winner in the shutout. The sophomore has been responsible for all three game-winning goals this season. York slotted the ball through the defense to connect with Trimmer for the assist.
York would score her first of two goals in the 20th minute off a Jessica McClendon feed through the box. Five minutes later, McClendon chipped the Grace Bible keeper to pick up her first goal of the season. York returned the favor and was credited with the assist.
York wasn't done scoring on the day as her second goal came in the 30th minute off a rebound. The two-goal, two-assist effort lifted York's season mark to 10 points overall. York's 30th minute goal would end first half scoring as the Mustangs went up 5-nil into the break.
In the second half, McClendon scored her second of the afternoon off of a useful Trimmer assist. Trimmer would later cap the scoring with her second goal in the 69th minute to give the Mustangs the 7-0 win.
The Mustangs outshot Grace Bible 19-8 (15-6 on goal).
Kaitlyn Pusey (Holly, Mich./Holly) got the start in net for the Mustangs earning her second win. Rachael Gilmore (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) returned from an injury to play the final 30 minutes and preserve the shared shutout.
The Mustangs will return to action Wednesday (Oct. 2) when they make the short trek to Lawrence Tech at 4:00 p.m. The 4:00 p.m. kick will be our Mustang Sports Network Game of the Week. Listen live beginning at 3:50 p.m.
