SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- A day after exploding for seven goals in a runaway victory, the women's soccer team (3-7-0, 0-2-0 WHAC) couldn't muster as many goals as they needed in a 3-2 road conference loss at Lawrence Tech (6-3-0, 1-1-0 WHAC). The loss drops the Mustangs record to 0-2-0 in the conference with NAIA No. 7 Davenport University up next, Saturday (Oct. 5) at 12:30 p.m.

The Mustangs spotted the host Blue Devils three goals over the first 34 minutes of action to dig an early 3-0 hole. Showing no signs of giving in, the Mustangs climbed back into the contest over the final 11 minutes of first half action off goals from Jessica Trimmer (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and Cheyenne York (Taylor, Mich./Truman) in the 36th and 39th minutes respectively. York played a great ball through to Trimmer to get the assist on the first goal.

The two goals drew the Mustangs to within one, 3-2, at the half.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the pair of unanswered goals would end the scoring for both teams on the day. With the defense settling in nicely in the second half, the Mustangs missed on a few great chances – including a pair of chances in the final five minutes – to settle for the 3-2 setback.

Rachael Gilmore (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) earned the start in net for the Mustangs. With the narrow 3-2 loss, the freshman's record now sits at 1-4 on the season.

Overall, the Blue Devils edged the Mustangs in shots on target, 11-7.

The Mustangs welcome (7) Davenport University to Detroit for a Saturday (Oct. 5) matchup at 12:30 p.m. Listen live to Jeremy Otto as he brings you the call beginning at 12:20 p.m. Saturday on the Mustang Sports Network.
