LIVONIA, Mich. -- After going down 3-0 the host Madonna Crusaders (6-6-1, 3-2-0 WHAC) at the 78:40 mark, the women's soccer team (3-11-0, 0-5-0 WHAC) posted a pair of goals a minute apart off the foot of Jessica McClendon (Canton, Mich./Madonna) to draw to within one score. The late rally fell just shy as the Mustangs couldn't find the equalizer after McClendon's final attempt sailed into the hands of the Cruaders keeper in the 3-2 loss.

Cheyenne York (Taylor, Mich./Truman) had too much pace late for the Crusader defense as she pushed forward down the sideline to feed McClendon in the middle for the pair of goals. York was credited with the assist on each goal bringing her points total to a team-leading 15 on the season.

McClendon's goals lifted her season tally to nine points, good for third on the team.

Freshmen keeper Rachael Gilmore (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) had a career day in net despite the taking a 3-2 loss. In all, Gilmore stuffed 19 Crusader shots to top her previous best of 13 set a few days ago when the Mustangs visited the University of Detroit Titans.

The Mustangs nearly pulled off a late comeback despite being outshot 35-5 overall, including a 22-5 mark on target. McClendon led all Mustangs with three shots on goal, while Paige Bicoll (Warren, Mich./Mott) and Sara Ruch (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) chipped in with a shot on goal each.

Next Game: The Mustangs host Cornerstone University Saturday Oct. 19 at 12:30 p.m. The game will mark Senior Day 2013 for the women's soccer program as the Mustangs celebrate the careers of their seniors prior to the 12:30 p.m. kick.
