DETROIT, Mich. -- The defense, marked by the return to WHAC action for Moussa Diallo (Conakry, Guinea/Dearborn Fordson), allowed a mere six shots (four on goal) to help lift the Mustangs to a 2-0 shutout victory Saturday (Nov. 2) on the campus of Marygrove College.
Abdoulie Jallow (Bansang, The Gambia/Rust) and Khalid Suleiman (Tulkarm, Palestine/Madonna University) scored a goal each in the 2-0 victory to lift the Mustangs conference record to .500 at 5-5. The team ends the regular season 11-7 overall.
The Mustangs, allowing little action from visiting Michigan-Dearborn, pulled ahead off Abdoulie Jallow's game-winning goal in the 27th minute. Ahmed Jamalaldin (Dearborn, Mich./Henry Ford CC) found Jallow for the assist on the game-winner. Defense would be key for the remainder of the half as the only allowed two Wolverine shots in the first 45'.
With Dearborn's attack stymied in the second stanza as well, Khalid Suleiman effectively put the game out of reach when his 12-yard shot beat the keeper left to give the Mustangs a two-goal lead. Haider Alzayadi (Simawa, Iraq/Wayne State University) sent the ball ahead to Suleiman for the assist.
In the second half, Dearborn would engineer four shots on, but Levanno Lewis (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall) was never threatened in the 2-0 victory. The shutout was Lewis' third of the season (fourth shutout for the team).
The Mustangs will likely be headed to Aquinas for the WHAC quarterfinals Nov. 9. Official word from the conference will be released over the weekend.
