ADRIAN, Mich. -- First year head coach Craig Covington led the Mustangs (0-9) into Adrian College (1-4) for a Saturday (Nov. 30) afternoon showdown against the NCAA Division III Bulldogs. A strong second half surge propelled the host Bulldogs past the Mustangs to the tune of a 75-46 final. Marygrove was down by nine, 36-27, at the half before Adrian pulled away in the second half in front of their home crowd.
The shorthanded Mustangs, now at 0-9 on the season, were once again plagued by an unlucky stretch of shooting from the floor. In the second half, Covington's Mustangs managed only 19 points on 7-of-25 shooting. Adrian posted 39 points on 16-of-30 shooting to pull away over the latter 20 minutes of action.
Despite the non-conference setback, the Mustangs continued to take care of the ball with only 12 turnovers on the afternoon (Adrian, 11). For the game, the Mustangs shot 35% from the field, while Adrian converted on 47% of their attempts.
Sophomore guard Diante Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) led the Mustangs with a team-high 13 points. Senior forward Kenny Enoex (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) and freshman forward Elijah Ingram (Detroit, Mich./Consortium) each tallied nine for the Mustangs.
Ben Rodak led four Adrian players in double figures with a game-high 18 points.
The Mustangs, still searching for their first win of the 2013-14 campaign, will make the short trip to the University of Michigan Dearborn for a 7:30 p.m. tip against the Wolverines Wednesday (Dec. 4).
