DEARBORN, Mich. -- First year head coach Craig Covington and the Mustangs (0-10; 0-5 WHAC) fell on the road to nearby foe, the University of Michigan Dearborn, 82-58, Wednesday (Dec. 4) inside the UMD Field House. The Wolverines moved to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the WHAC, while Marygrove dropped their 10th straight to open Covington's first year at the helm.

In nearly a mirror image of the women's game that preceded the men's contest, the Wolverines were able to pull away early by a 22-3 margin as the Mustangs struggled to make a basket. After the 19-point margin was established, the Mustangs settled in but failed to hedge into the lead as they trailed at halftime, 37-21.

The 16-point halftime deficit was a product of a 7-for-34 (20%) shooting effort on the Mustangs behalf. Dearborn countered by dropping 40% of their shots by going 13-of-32.

In the second half, the Wolverines pulled away with timely shots as the Mustangs continued to struggle from the field. Staring down their 10th loss, the Mustangs let Dearborn pile on late as the Wolverines won by 24.

Looking ahead, the Mustangs may have shook their shooting funk late as the team shot a season-best 56% from the field in the second stanza.

The Mustangs were led by Diante Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Terrick Griffin (Detroit, Mich./PEC Prep) dropped in 12 of his own on 6-of-12 shooting.

Kenny Enoex (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) had a balanced evening with six points, six blocks, and five rebounds.

Michigan Dearborn was paced by Gage Throgmorton with a game-high 22 points.

The Mustangs will return to action Saturday (Dec. 7) when they host Aquinas College at 3 p.m. inside Detroit's Northwest Activities Center. The game will feature live audio and live stats on the Mustang Sports Network.
