DETROIT, Mich. -- Without key players once again, the Mustangs (0-11; 0-6 WHAC) dropped their 11th straight at the hands of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe, Aquinas College (4-6; 3-3 WHAC), by an 89-49 final. Aquinas jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back in the Saturday (Dec. 7) conference matinee.
The visiting Saints converted on 50% of their attempts from the floor in the first half to take a commanding 43-20 lead into the break. The Mustangs, despite working hard and getting open shots, couldn't find their rhythm en route to a 26% shooting half.
Aquinas came out strong in the second half to secure the 40-point conference victory.
Despite the setback, the Mustangs are hopeful about the immediate future because of the key minutes currently doled out to young players, accompanied by the return of several key players within the month.
The Mustangs were led by Kenny Enoex (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) with 12 points, six rebounds, and more blocks to pad his NAIA-leading tally on the season. Diante Taylor (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) followed with 10 points, while Elijah Ingram (Detroit, Mich./Consortium) and Jerome Wheeler (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) chipped in nine each.
Kolin Kazen led three Saints in double figures scoring with a game-high 16 points. Kazen added 14 rebounds to complete the double-double.
The Mustangs will take a week off before returning to the floor to take on WHAC counterpart, Concordia University, in Ann Arbor Dec. 14 at 3 p.m.
