DETROIT, Mich. -- The Mustangs (2-14; 0-9 WHAC) returned home Wednesday (Jan. 8) to Detroit's Northwest Activities Center (NWAC) after a month away to host Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe and NAIA No. 24 Siena Heights University (12-5; 6-4 WHAC). The visiting Saints, newly ranked in the NAIA's Top-25, were sharp in all facets of the game as they went on to defeat the Mustangs, 96-43.

The Saints started the game on a 24-2 run over the first nine minutes of play before freshman forward Kierra Jordan (Westland, Mich./John Glenn) connected in the paint to break a five-plus minute scoring drought for the Mustangs. Marygrove would get decent looks at the basket, but couldn't knock enough shots down as they went into the break down, 49-14.

As part of a tough first 20 minutes, the Mustangs shot 4-of-32 (13%) from the field compared to the Saints 47% shooting clip in half number one.

The Mustangs would rebound to begin the second half, but the highly-ranked Saints were too much in Wednesday's WHAC battle in the 96-43 decision.

Senior guard Adrienne Weaver (Flint, Mich./Mott CC) led the Mustangs in scoring for the third straight game after dropping in nine points, while fellow senior Arielle Edwards (Grand Rapids, Mich./Ottawa Hills) followed closely with eight points.

The Saints were led by Alexxis Knannlein with 15 points.

The Mustangs will return to action at home Saturday (Jan. 11) when they host WHAC counterpart, the University of Northwestern Ohio. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday's conference game will feature live audio and live stats on the Mustang Sports Network at
