
Matt Johnson will be entering his first year as head coach of the Marygrove Mustang Soccer program, also its inaugural season. He has an extensive ten year professional career as a player. Johnson's professional playing career included stops with the Utah Freezz, San Diego Sockers, and most recently as a Player/Coach with the Detroit Ignition. As he guides the birth of the Mustangs, Johnson will be looking to draw on experience gained while leading the expansion Ignition to back-to-back regular season championships in their first two seasons.
In addition to his experience as a player, the Minneapolis, MN native has been successful coaching at both the club and high school levels. At the club level, Johnson led the Keliix Intra to a U19 Minnesota State Cup Championship.
Johnson is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where he majored in Political Science with a minor in Social Change and Development. Matt currently resides in Canton with his wife, Katie Alba.
