John Tersigni was recently named head coach
of the newly-formed men's lacrosse program at Marygrove College. Brought on
board in May 2012 as the first head coach in program history, Tersigni will
look to build a roster that is slated to begin varsity competition in Fall
2013. Tersigni, a coach with experience building a program at a previous stop
in 2009, is thrilled about the opportunity to build a program at the collegiate
level in the southeast Michigan area.
Tersigni comes to Marygrove with a wealth of
lacrosse experience gained from stops spanning Michigan to Missouri as a player
and coach over the past 18 years. As a student-athlete, Tersigni played one
year of collegiate lacrosse at Central Michigan University and another at
Michigan State University. Both institutions competed in the Central Collegiate
Lacrosse Association (CCLA) as a conference member of the Men's Collegiate
Lacrosse Association (MCLA) - associations in which the Mustangs are currently
exploring as they begin their program. The former collegiate student-athlete
will draw from his playing experience as he moves forward as a coach.
Recently, Tersigni returned to Michigan to
grow a business and continue his lacrosse coaching career. In 2010, Tersigni
joined the coaching staff as assistant coach and defensive coordinator at his
alma mater, De La Salle Collegiate (Warren, Mich.). He also spent time serving
as assistant coach for the GP Select Travel Lacrosse Team (Grosse Pointe,
Mich.) helping to prepare high school student-athletes for the next level of
lacrosse.
During his many coaching stops, Tersigni will
draw on one experience in particular as he develops a new program at the
college level. While in Missouri in 2009, Tersigni was asked to develop a new
men's lacrosse program at Marquette High School (Chersterfield, Mo.). That
experience, combined with a litany of other playing and coaching stops, will
help Tersigni as he develops the program at Marygrove. Before building the
program at Marquette, Tersigni also served as the head coach at Mary Institute
& Country Day School in St. Louis, Missouri.
Tersigni holds a B.A. in History from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and a M.A. in Theology from the Aquinas Institute of Theology at Saint Louis University. He currently resides in Clinton Township.
