DeVoe, also named 2011 USCAA Academic All-American, completed a well-rounded campaign after finishing 13th of 111 runners at the USCAA National Championship Meet. Following DeVoe was Ashley Hart (Oak Park, Mich./Oakland CC) with a time of 35:36. Sophomore Shanique Maddox (Detroit, Mich./Wayne County CC) followed closely behind at the 37:20 mark. Freshman newcomer Charmaine McCray finished with a time of 40:56.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs were not able to record a team score due to an injury to LaNyck Washington (Detroit, Mich./East Kentwood). The junior went down early and was not able to finish for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs were able to compete with the best in the nation despite treading a difficult course that countered with snow to go along with the high altitude of upstate New York. In all, the race completes a successful year for the Mustangs as they continue to build a brand for success at Marygrove College.
Led by Head Coach LaCema Womack, the Mustangs will now look to build off their 2011 momentum into next season. Congratulations on a fine season Mustangs!
