Mustangs Finish Sixth Behind Jackson’s Big Day Men’s Indoor Track & Field –

ANGOLA, Ind. – Sophomore George Jackson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) continued his late season tear when the Mustangs competed in their first WHAC Indoor Championship event. The sophomore excelled in the 600m and 800m and positioned himself for a day that is arguably the best personal effort in the brief history of track & field at Marygrove College.

In the 600m, Jackson nearly took home the event crown after finishing with a time of 1:23.08. The time set a PR for Jackson as the sophomore finished in third place – just under two seconds away from the top time in the event. Jackson’s third place finish lifted him to a spot on the WHAC All-Conference Team.

The 800m event would bring similar results for Jackson as the talented mid-distance runner hit his stride for another third place finish. With a time of 1:59.69, Jackson finished two seconds shy of winning the 800m championship event and was once again named to the WHAC’s All-Conference Team.

The back-to-back all-conference times lifted Jackson to arguably the best individual performance of any Mustang in the program’s short history. The sophomore would tally a total of 12 points to help lift the Mustangs to a sixth place team finish.

Fellow sophomore Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King) went sub-five again in the mile event after he finished with a time of 4:59.89. Crockett would finish 8th of 11, two spots out of recording points for the Mustangs as the team would go on to finish 6th of 7 teams at the conference meet.

Jalen Wilson (Detroit, Mich./CMA) entered the 200m and finished in 25.88, while Franz Beauregard (Detroit, Mich./Macomb CC) crossed the 60m line with a time of 8.15.

Akil Prowell (Detroit, Mich./Crockett) finished the 3000m at a 10:24 clip.

The Mustangs will now await outdoor season where they are scheduled to enter their first meet March 29 at the Grand Rapids Open.
