GVSU’s Al Owens Classic Next for Men’s Track & Field
DETROIT, Mich. â The Marygrove men’s track & field team will travel to Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Saturday (April 19) to take part in the Al Owens Classic at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium. The event will be the second of the outdoor season for the Mustangs as they continue to work toward the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championships at Siena Heights May 1 & 2.
The Mustangs, fresh off a stellar season-opening outing a week ago, will once again send out their core of mid-distance runners to compete against the talent-laden field at GVSU. Marcell Houston (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) Â will compete in the 400 and 800m, while teammate Robert Crockett (Detroit, Mich./King) will walk to the starting line in the 800 and 1,500m.
Last week, Houston finished the 800m in 35th place after posting a time of 2:10.22. Crockett competed in the 1,500m and crossed the finish line in 30th place with a time of 4:35.84. The pair will look to improve upon their times Saturday as the season’s slate begins to pick up.
Head coach LaCema Womack projects sophomore Cheikh Ka (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup) will round out the roster and compete in the 400m Saturday.
