FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Wednesday (Sept. 17) marked a rough day for Marygrove women’s volleyball (3-8, 1-4 WHAC) as the team was swept on the road by conference foe Indiana Tech (7-5, 2-2 WHAC) to the tune of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-14. The team will look to shake off the conference setback Saturday (Sept. 20) at the Marygrove-hosted CRAM Tri-Match with guests Concordia-Ann Arbor and Rochester visiting Northwest Activities Center for matches at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

All three matches will feature a live video and stats broadcast on the Mustang Sports Network at marygrovemustangs.com/live.

As a team, the Mustangs were trumped by a hard-hitting Warrior offense that connected on 52 kills off of 96 total attacks. The Mustangs countered with 22 kills on 86 attacks for a .081 hitting percentage. Defensively, the Mustangs were missing links en route to a 28-dig effort, compared to a 46-dig night for the Warriors.

Senior middle hitter Kiara Cobbs (Detroit, Mich./King) shined in the conference defeat with a team-leading nine kills. Ashley Murphy (Southfield, Mich./Livonia Clarenceville) showed plenty of heart by putting together a stellar game despite not being 100-percent. Murphy – the Mustangs’ kills leader through 11 matches – finished the night with four more kills (one error) and added three digs.

Senior libero Kara Kempinski (Livonia, Mich./Schoolcraft College) was the only member on the Green & Gold squad with double-digits digs (10). The team will now look to rebound in practice prior to this weekend’s tri-match.

The Mustangs will be in action early Saturday with a non-conference match against Concordia-Ann Arbor at 10 a.m. The match against the Cardinals will open tri-match play and will be followed by a natural-site contest between Concordia-Ann Arbor and Rochester, before the Mustangs close out the day against the Warriors at 2 p.m.
