DETROIT — Marygrove baseball head coach Ryan Kottke announced the signing of Parkway Christian senior Michael Battista to a growing 2015 class Monday (Feb. 23) as the program continues to form a strong foundation. Battista, the fourth to sign a 2015-16 Letter of Intent, joins a promising cast of Mustangs looking to make a mark in the newly-formed NAIA program at Marygrove College next year.
Battista, a 5-11 pitcher, committed to the Detroit-based NAIA program as his senior year on the diamond nears. A former two-year player for Chippewa Valley High School, Battista will run out onto the diamond as a senior for Parkway Christian after transferring to the private school over the summer months.
The talented pitcher elevated his game by playing a year with the Tri-County Crush in 2013 and followed up that experience with a successful tenure with the Metro Stars in 2014. Last summer, Battista helped his club squad take home the Black Swamp Classic Championship â an annual tournament in Ohio that is host to top travel teams from across the region. Â Â
COACH KOTTKE ON BATTISTA
“Mike is a true bulldog in every sense of the word when he’s on the bump,” said Kottke. “I’ve seen Mike throw for a couple of years now and I have the utmost confidence that he will come in and produce right away. Mike is the type of player who would want the ball every day if we would give it to him. He will join our staff as another guy who will throw any pitch in any count and we love about him. We look forward to coaching Mike over the next four years and wish him good luck at Parkway Christian this season.”
