DETROIT — Under the guidance of first-year head coach Cary Ossiff, the women’s track & field team will make the trek north to Midland, Mich. to take part in the Northwood University Open on Saturday (April 11). The Mustangs will look to build off of last weekend’s excellent showing at Alma College’s Charlie Gray Invitational that resulted in numerous top-10 finishes for the Green and Gold.

Last week, the Mustangs were led by sophomore Theresa Dray (Davison, Mich./Davison High School) with a second-place finish in the shot put. Dray posted a throw of 10.59m to finish just shy of first place (11.24m), making a statement in the process in her 2015 debut. The Davison native will once again enter the shot put event while also throwing the discus, hammer and javelin Saturday at Northwood.

Amber Staudt and Rachel Staudt also enjoyed a stellar afternoon at last week’s event in Alma. Rachel and Amber finished sixth and seventh in the shot put, respectively, before making their presence known in other events throughout the day.

Rachel (Novi, Mich./Lawrence Technological University), the eldest Staudt sister, checked in with a seventh place finish in the discus after posting a throw of 27.79m. Dray snuck in just head of Rachel with a toss of 30.97m, showcasing the growth the Mustangs have enjoyed in their limited time under Ossiff’s tutelage.

The Staudt sisters rounded out their last outing with Rachel and Amber (Novi, Mich./Schoolcraft College) chiming in with solid throws in the javelin of 24.83m and 23.39m. Both Amber and Rachel will enter the discus, hammer, javelin and shot put at Northwood on Saturday.
