Broncos Best Tough Mustang Squad

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — On Friday (08/24), the Mustangs (0-2) faced their first NCAA Division I opponent in program history when they visited Western Michigan University (1-0).

The Mustangs, coming off a season-opening loss to Grace (Ind.) a day prior, found themselves searching for their legs early on against a tough Broncos squad. Despite the tired legs, the Mustangs quickly frustrated the Broncos as they proved they were up to the test that a NCAA D1 would bring.

After 15 minutes of action, the Mustangs defense finally bent as the Broncos notched their first goal. Minutes later, the Broncos would strike again to lift the tally to 2-0. The score would remain until halftime, but not before Jordan Berry (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood) nearly cut the lead in half with a left-footed attempt that was stopped by the Broncos keeper.

In the second half, the Mustangs would nearly notch their first goal of 2012 when Berry directed two at the keeper that were pushed away. Abdoullie Jallow (Bansang, The Gambia/Rust) also had a great look on net via free kick late into the contest.

In the end, the Broncos would prevail 4-0. Despite the score, the Mustangs were able to match the Broncos play during a large portion of the contest. Christian Bryant (Plymouth, Mich./Southfield Christian) played another solid game in net for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, August 31, when they host Spring Arbor University at 2:00pm.
