DETROIT, Mich. — The Marygrove College athletics department is expanding its digital footprint by offering more ways for student-athletes, parents, and fans to connect via social media. Effective Wednesday (July 3), Marygrove Athletics will increase their presence on twitter by offering personalized team feeds for all of their varsity programs. The new initiative will allow for the department to reach niche markets within each sport while allowing fans to follow the sport of their choosing.
Recently, Marygrove Athletics has been taking strides toward improving its external communications and today’s announcement is another step in the right direction for the ever-growing athletic program situated in Northwest Detroit.
“The addition of team-specific twitter feeds will allow for a new level of student-athlete exposure for all of our varsity sports,” said Tim Johnston, Marygrove’s Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations & Events. “This is one of many initiatives we [athletic department] feel will increase our presence online and in the community as we move forward.”
Honoring the institution’s rich tradition, the addition of the team-specific twitter feeds caused the athletic department to go back to its roots as part of a shift in the overall athletics branding of their social media outlets. The general athletics facebook and twitter feeds â now both with the username @MGroveAthletics â embrace the MG that Marygrove is well-known for throughout the community and beyond. With the beginning of each twitter handle featuring MG, all sports and general athletic department accounts will now be branded together as one mass communication tool for all interested in the latest information from Marygrove Athletics.
