Michael Love - Head Coach - 1st Season

Michael Love, who served as an assistant in 2010, will take over the helm of a program that has experienced an abundance of success the first two years as a varsity program.

In 2010, Love helped lead on the court coaching for a team that finished fourth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament and fifth nationally in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

Love was most recently a coach at the AAU level for the past few seasons before landing at Marygrove. Before the AAU coaching stint, Michael played in the AAU ranks, played one year of men's club volleyball at Michigan State University, and coached at Southfield High School. The aforementioned stops, combined with a strong family volleyball pedigree, helped Michael reach the point of being tabbed head coach earlier this week.

As part of a strong volleyball family, Michael will be flanked in support by one of the area's most respected coaches - his mother, Alisha Love. Alisha's impressive background includes a 1988 National Championship as a student-athlete at Schoolcraft College, and over 15 league, district and regional championships at the high school level (Clarenceville & Southfield). Currently, Alisha owns the local Skillz Finest Volleyball Club, with Michael coaching U17 girls division. Michael's sister, Amanda, recently signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

"I am very excited about the chance to coach the great group of young ladies we have at Marygrove College. I would like to thank my family for guidance and support, Dave Sichterman for providing me with this opportunity, and Karen Graves for my first collegiate coaching position and allowing me to grow under her direction," said Coach [Michael] Love of the opportunity presented to him recently.

"I look forward to the season ahead as we begin our work to become the hardest working team in any division. I have a group of high character student-athletes that work hard on and off the court to become the best they can be. That attitude, combined with the great talent base we already have between existing and incoming classes, should pay immediate dividends for our program as we look to continue our momentum from last season's successes", stated the newly appointed head coach.
